LISBON, Ohio (WKBN) -- Lisbon is hosting some visitors at Highlandtown Lake.

About nine North American pelicans made a stop at the lake this weekend to rest and feed before heading to Canada and the Rockies, according to local birder Bob Lane.

"This is obviously a rare occurrence," Lane said. "Usually it's one day, but it's been three. They've been here since Saturday."

Lane is fairly well-known in the local birding community. He and his wife have recorded 264 species in Columbiana County.

Lane said as of Monday morning, the birds were still there, but won't stay much longer.
