A riot at the Trousdale Turner Correctional Center in Tennessee has been contained, according to local law enforcement. The incident, which occurred northeast of Nashville, began late Sunday night and prompted a swift response from multiple agencies.

The Trousdale County Sheriff’s Department reported receiving word of the disturbance just after 10 p.m. on June 9, 2025. Sheriff Ray Russell stated that the situation escalated when several inmates refused to return to their cells. In response, officers deployed gas into the prison yard to regain control.

Sheriff Russell confirmed that all prisoners were eventually returned to their cells. He emphasized that the incident was contained within the facility's fences, stating, "There’s no threat at all. The prisoners never got to the main fence where they could escape. They were in a yard and contained."

During the incident, three guards were briefly held hostage but were released unharmed. The sheriff's department noted that there were no major injuries reported among the staff or inmates.

Approximately 100 officers from various agencies were on the scene to assist in managing the situation. The prison remains on lockdown as an investigation into the riot continues. CoreCivic, the company that operates the facility, has been in communication with local news outlets regarding the events that unfolded.
