SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A Syracuse man, who is a repeat sex offender, pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography in federal court, the United States Department of Justice announced Monday.

Edward McKeraghan, 59, admitted that he possessed child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, on a phone that he was not permitted to have because he is already a federally convicted sex offender. The CSAM was discovered by a probation officer during a routine home visit.

McKeraghan is facing up to 20 years in prison and five years of probation for the crime. He is also facing two years in prison for violating the terms of his supervised release.

His setting is scheduled for Oct. 15.
