A gathering of about 100 people on the Court House Green Sunday afternoon celebrated, through hymn, the centenary of the inauguration of the United Church of Canada.
This marked the union of several protestant denominations with the ceremony taking place in Toronto on June 10, 1925. They were the Methodist Church of Canada, the Congregational Union of Canada and 70 per cent of the Presbyterian Church of Canada, with a small General Council of Union Churches, centred largely in Western Canada.
Sunday was also Pentecost in the church calendar, as well as a splendid day, with ample dappled shade on the Green and the welcoming warmth of the June sun.
