MIDDLE TOWNSHIP — A Wildwood man died Sunday morning after his car hit a tree on Route 47, police said.
Police were dispatched to Route 47 North in the Goshen section of the township about 6 a.m. for a report of a one-car crash with entrapment. A Toyota Camry was traveling north when it lost control and struck a tree, police said Monday in a news release.
The driver, Javier Ayala, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, a 52-year-old woman whom police did not identify, was removed from the vehicle and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus in Galloway Township.
Route 47 was closed for about four hours while police investigated and cleared the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
