The City of Cornwall confirmed Monday afternoon that Emergency Management Ontario (EMO) is bringing residents of Sandy Lake First Nation to the Dev Hotel and Conference Centre due to escalating wildfire threats in Northern Ontario.

In an afternoon release, the city said EMO told the city on Sunday that evacuees would begin arriving on Monday morning, with the first group of about 155 getting to the Dev Hotel around 4 a.m. The total number of people expected by the time the residents being sheltered here all arrive is expected to be around 450.
