MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Representative Chris Pappas visited GenTent Safety Canopies in Brentwood on Monday to hear about the impact of tariffs on this small business that makes specialized generator covers.

CEO Mark Carpenter said GenTent is making a major investment in a new component for its products.

“It's the largest risk that we've ever taken, and because of the tariffs as they exist today, the cost of this goes up over 30%, which hits us over $100,000. When August 12th hits, if the tariffs go back to what they were, this component is going to cost me more than double,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter said for his business, the timing of these tariff costs couldn't be worse.
