OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A letter sent by the Omaha Police Chief to the Douglas County Sheriff on Monday sheds light on tensions between two of the law enforcement agencies operating in the city.
The police department shared the letter with First Alert 6, labeled “not for public dissemination,” after it was leaked to other media sources, an OPD spokesperson said.
In the letter, OPD Chief Todd Schmaderer raises several concerns about jurisdiction, media and community relations, and the sharing of operational information. He also specifically mentions DCSO’s handling of last month’s deputy-involved shooting , the sheriff’s hiring of an officer Schmaderer had fired .
