CROWN POINT — The trial opened Monday afternoon for a Crown Point woman who hit and killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence in 2020.

Christian Garza, 30, was charged with causing death when operating a vehicle with an alcohol content level of .08 or more in the death of Andreas Ramos, 27, who died from his injuries Jan. 19, 2020. She also faces a charge for neglect of a dependent plus five OWI-related felony counts and five misdemeanor counts.

During opening arguments, attorneys for both the prosecution and defense did not dispute that Garza struck Ramos shortly after midnight as she drove south down Taft Street near 93rd Avenue.
