Ahead of his third season with the program, Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is reportedly away from the team as he deals with health issues.
Sanders has not been present as the Buffaloes kicked off their annual slate of summer camps, and he also withdrew from a scheduled speaking engagement on June 8, according to USA TODAY Sports. His son, Deion Sanders Jr., said on a YouTube live stream on Sunday that his father is recovering at the family's estate in Canyon, Texas, where he is "feeling well."
He was also non-committal on when his father would return to Boulder, though he said the elder Sanders would share what he had been dealing with when he was able. Sanders has previously dealt with blood clots in his legs, which became so severe that he had to have two toes amputated and the side of his left calf removed.
In Sanders' second season in 2024, the Buffaloes improved their record from 4-8 to 9-4. Colorado faces quite a few questions entering 2025, however, with the departure of Sanders' sons Shedeur and Shilo, who started at quarterback and safety, respectively.
CU also lost receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter, who became the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
It's unclear when Sanders will be back in action at Colorado, but the program will hope he's able to return for fall camp. The Buffaloes begin the 2025 campaign at home against Georgia Tech on Aug. 29.
