PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Two additional asylum seekers were arrested Tuesday morning at Portland Immigration Court, bringing the total to four detained in just over a week using the same methods.
Innovation Law Lab attorneys filed immediate federal habeas corpus petitions, and a federal judge ordered that neither person is to be moved out of Oregon for at least two days.
Lawyers say the two asylum seekers arrested Tuesday should be released due to the rapid court intervention and may return home to their communities, while two others arrested last week are still detained at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma.
