Tensions are rising between President Donald Trump and California Governor Gavin Newsom as protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continue to escalate across the country. Demonstrations have spread from Los Angeles to cities including New York City, San Francisco, Boston, and Austin, Texas.

In response to the unrest, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass imposed an overnight curfew in a one-square-mile area of downtown LA, where clashes between police and protesters have occurred over the past five days. President Trump has deployed 4,000 National Guardsmen and 700 Marines to Los Angeles, a move that Newsom and Bass opposed. In retaliation, Newsom has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration, claiming they unlawfully "trampled over" California’s sovereignty by federalizing the California National Guard.

As the situation unfolds, federal prosecutors in Los Angeles have announced charges against two men for their alleged involvement in the violence during the protests. Emiliano Galvez and Wrackkie Quiogue are accused of possessing unregistered destructive devices, specifically Molotov cocktails. According to the complaint, Quiogue attempted to flee after throwing a Molotov cocktail into the air when approached by LAPD officers. Galvez allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail over a wall toward LA sheriff's deputies during a protest in Paramount, a city south of LA. Both men were arrested following separate incidents.

In New York City, protests against Trump’s immigration policies led to the arrest of 86 individuals at 26 Federal Plaza and nearby Foley Square. The New York Police Department reported that 34 of those arrested faced charges including assault, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration. One individual was charged with reckless endangerment. The protests intensified after 9 p.m. when demonstrators returned to the area, leading to confrontations with police, who reported that bottles and other objects were thrown at them. Federal agents responded by deploying tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr has also weighed in on the nationwide protests, warning that those who engage in violence to change public policy could face Domestic Terrorism charges. "We will defend the right to peacefully protest," Carr stated, adding, "We will not hesitate to bring Domestic Terrorism charges for those who earn it."

Amid these developments, President Trump has continued to criticize Governor Newsom, labeling him as "incompetent" for failing to protect ICE officers effectively. On his social media platform, Trump expressed frustration over the situation, stating, "Our ICE Officers, GREAT Patriots they are, deserve better."

As protests continue to unfold across the nation, the situation remains fluid, with calls for further demonstrations planned in various cities.
