LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas Department of Corrections (DOC) director confirmed that Grant Hardin , the former police chief and convicted murderer who escaped from the Calico Rock prison in May, had been classified incorrectly and shouldn't have been housed in the medium-security facility.
Hardin escaped from the North Central Unit on May 25, in broad daylight, while dressed in a makeshift law enforcement uniform. After leading a nearly two-week long manhunt, Hardin was found 1.5 miles north of the prison.
During an Arkansas legislative subcommittee meeting on Aug. 11 in Little Rock, director Dexter Payne gave lawmakers an update on where the DOC is at on its critical incident review of the escape.
