TAMPA, Fla. — More people in their 30s and 40s are being diagnosed with appendix cancer than ever before.
A new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine shows that appendix cancer rates have tripled and even quadrupled among Gen X and millennials, when compared to older generations.
South Florida resident Tatiana (whose last name is being withheld for medical and privacy concerns) was 38 years old when she was diagnosed with stage 4 appendix cancer. She says she was pregnant with her fourth child when she started experiencing extreme pain and bloating with her abdomen, coupled with nausea that wouldn’t go away.
She said she felt her doctors didn’t take her concerns seriously, and attributed them to pregnancy.
