When Canadian folk music legend Valdy takes the stage at the Whoop and Hollar Folk Festival next weekend, it will mark a full-circle moment more than a decade in the making.

The Juno-award-winning musician is headlining the festival’s 11th season on Aug. 23-24, returning to the very place where he inadvertently planted the seed for its creation over a decade ago.

“He played here in our house 15 years ago,” said Linda Omichinski, the festival’s president and co-founder. “He thought having a fwestival would work here.”

At the time, Omichinski and her husband Josh were volunteer hosts for Home Roots, a touring circuit that places musicians in local homes to reduce their travel expenses. Valdy was a featured artist on the circuit and performed an intimate concert in their home. The fest
