HOUSTON — The Houston Texans went into training camp this season with plenty of wide receivers. Now, they apparently have one fewer.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter and NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, the team traded away receiver John Metchie III in a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Schefter posted that Houston will get tight end Harris Bryant and a fifth-round pick out of it.

Metchie was a second-round pick in 2022 out of Alabama. He missed his rookie season after a cancer diagnosis the summer after he was drafted. Metchie, who was treated for acute promyelocytic leukemia, was cleared to play in the 2023 season.

For his career, Metchie has 40 catches for 412 yards and a touchdown.
