HOUSTON (KIAH) — As students head back to school this month, families are taking those first-day-of-school picture to keep up with tradition and they're also sharing them online.

Police officers say those images posted online could give child predators a lot more information on you and your child's whereabout, than you ever intended to get out. Here is some advice for you to consider in order to keep your and your children safe online during the new school year.

According to John Lacy, an Overland Park Officer, the first time to remember is not to put the child's name on social media. If you do put their name, only use their initials.

"The second thing I would tell you to do is not put the school, because they can figure out what school and what area that child is walking," Lacy said.
