Injured climber rescued from Capitol Peak

A climber stranded and injured on Capitol Peak was rescued early Saturday after an overnight mission by Mountain Rescue Aspen, according to a news release from the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office.

Pitkin County dispatchers received a 911 call around 6:52 p.m. Friday from a climber reporting that their partner had failed to return to the Capitol-Daly saddle after attempting the summit. On the hike out for help, the reporting party encountered campers near Capitol Lake and borrowed a phone to call for aid.

Mountain Rescue Aspen launched a ground team at 9:51 p.m. and requested aerial support from the Colorado National Guard’s High-Altitude Army National Guard Aviation Training Site in Gypsum. CareFlight of the Rockies also conducted a night-vision
