School has been closed to open enrollment for 3 years due to overcrowding

Relief from overcrowding at Liberty High School is inching closer to reality.

The Peoria Unified Governing Board Aug. 14 approved a guaranteed maximum price of about $430,500 to allow for initial construction of new classrooms on campus.

Kevin Molino said the approval will cover items that have long lead times, and more funds will come to the board for approval in November.

The total project cost is about $6.7 million.

Construction is expected to begin in November and be competed in October 2026, with classrooms to be ready for the January 2027 semester.
