On Aug. 9, the Fraser family was presented with two Manitoba Legacy 150 Year Certificates, recognizing their continuous farming on two separate homesteads north of Portage la Prairie since 1873.

“It’s such a tremendous success to see one farm being there for one hundred and fifty years,” said Portage la Prairie MLA Jeff Bereza, who presented the awards at a celebration on the farm.

With the two certificates, the family holds the unique distinction of being the seventh and eighth families recognized by the Manitoba Family Farm Recognition Program for 150 years.

“When you think about it, 150 years ago, that’s a long time ago and how many things have changed,” Bereza said. “But as many things have changed, they’ve stayed the same.”
