Protest planned for PA ICE detention facility

Activists are organizing a protest of the Moshannon Valley Processing Center, the largest ICE processing center in the Northeast, citing nearly 90 civil rights complaints in FY2024 over filthy conditions, racist abuse, negligent medical care, and the use of pepper spray on mentally ill detainees. The goal of the protest is to force facility administrators to allow elected officials entry to inspect the premises, and to possibly shut the facility down.

Moshannon is a former prison repurposed by ICE in 2021. The facility is operated by the for-profit Geo Group and has a capacity for 1,876 detainees.
