The superintendent of the York County schools has “announced his intention to retire,” according to a news release from the school division Monday morning.
Victor D. Shandor , 55, has led the York County School Division since August 2014, making him the longest-serving superintendent in Hampton Roads.
The five-member York County School Board held a “special meeting” Monday morning. The meeting, which was closed to the public, had only one agenda item: A discussion about “the Possible Separation of a Specific Employee of the Division.”
An official departure date hasn’t been set, but Shandor “shared his plans so the Board could begin developing a transition plan in the best interest of the school division,” according to a school district news release that strongly praised Shandor.
