PHOENIX — The Arizona Attorney General called it one of the biggest scandals in state history.
Reckless rehabilitation providers allegedly targeted vulnerable Native Americans by giving them alcohol and drugs to sign up for the State's American Indian Health Program with the promise of treatment.
Instead, Vanessa Templeman, the inspector general for the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, said fraudulent providers were just taking the money without providing the proper treatment. It's been going on for years, and state lawmakers claim it's cost Arizona taxpayers $2.8 billion.
