SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The Notre Dame football team has put its quarterback competition to bed.
The team announced on social media Tuesday afternoon that redshirt freshman CJ Carr will be the starting quarterback for its season opener at Miami 12 days from now.
Carr had been battling for the starting job with redshirt sophomore Kenny Minchey since the spring game.
While Carr was considered the favorite for the starting job, reports out of camp indicated it was actually a very close battle between the two.
Notre Dame meets Miami for its season opener down in South Beach on Sunday, Aug. 31. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
