JAMESTOWN —Wanda Tucker and Antonio D. Charity want to encourage others to learn more about their own family history, despite how difficult it may be.

Their stories were part of Jamestown Settlement’s commemoration of the first Africans who were brought to Virginia in 1619. The museum, dedicated to 17th century Virginia history and culture, featured programs on Saturday exploring the knowledge and traditions that helped create today’s African American culture.

Along with exhibits and films showcasing the 17th century African and African American experience in Virginia, an interactive workshop focused on finding and sharing family stories. Tucker and Charity were both guest speakers for the event, sharing their ties to the first Africans.
