PHOENIX — Federal immigration officials are rapidly expanding detention capacity across the country to support President Donald Trump's aggressive deportation goals, with three Arizona facilities potentially in line for major expansions , according to documents obtained by The Washington Post.

The Maricopa County Jail tops the list of targeted facilities in Arizona. ICE projects the county's jails could house up to 720 detainees. These would be the first detainees at the jail.

The facility's potential inclusion comes after Republican Sheriff Jerry Sheridan publicly expressed a willingness to assist with Trump's deportation plans.

"If it's possible, if it's constitutional and if it's legal, absolutely, I would," Sheridan said when asked about helping with the administration's immigrati
