JAMES CITY — Residents who live and work in Williamsburg, James City and York County met on Monday to develop strategies to increase their communities’ readiness to navigate the effects of a changing climate.
The University of Virginia’s Institute for Engagement & Negotiation hosted a workshop at the James City County Recreation Center for the Historic Triangle RAFT Project, which aims to foster community resilience within the three localities. RAFT, which stands for resilience adaptation feasibility tool, is a statewide effort to prepare communities that are especially vulnerable to natural hazards such as sea level rise, drought and extreme temperatures.
Resilience, according to project organizers, is the ability of communities to foresee threats to their people and populations, to red
