CLEVELAND — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is asking a federal appeals court to reinstate a state law that would require parental permission for children under 16 to sign up for social media.
Yost’s office filed a 76-page brief Tuesday with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. The filing seeks to reverse an April ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Algenon Marbley , who struck down the Parental Notification by Social Media Operators Act as unconstitutional.
The law, passed in 2023, requires social media and online gaming companies to verify a user’s age and secure parental consent for children under 16.
