Gov. Kay Ivey has welcomed college mascots from across the state to the Alabama Capitol as she proclaimed College Colors Day.
This event is an annual tradition in Alabama. Colleges send their mascots to join the governor as College Colors Day is proclaimed. This year, Friday, August 29, will be the day that Gov. Ivey encourages everyone to wear their favorite team’s colors to work, school or just out in public.
The tradition is more than just getting fans fired up to support their team. It’s also a reminder of the impact Alabama’s 14 public universities have on students, families and the economy. That economic impact is $27 million a year, with more than 180,000 students faculty and staff spread out on campuses statewide.
