WASHINGTON — The nation’s capital continued to be roiled by President Donald Trump’s escalating takeover of the city and its police force, and the flood of federal forces that are now patrolling and making arrests across the city.

Restaurants and shops are complaining about a sharp drop off in customers and many city workers are taking leave or staying at home. There are scattered protests, but mostly there is anger at the president’s error-ridden description of the city as a crime-ridden hellscape.
