A federally patented easement of the Stagecoach Road alignment from Scenic Street to the Tamarisk Street alignment in Apache Junction has been extinguished.

The council voted unanimously Aug. 5 as part of a consent agenda with other items to approve a resolution extinguishing the easement.

Federally patented easements were created by federal law and inherited by the city from Pinal County upon city formation and subsequent annexations. They are the means where properties are accessed by citizens in portions of Apache Junction to mitigate the need of acquisition to serve access to otherwise landlocked parcels, Project Engineer Raquel Schatz said in a memo to the council.

The federally patented easements typically are a total of 66 feet in width with 33 feet on each side of common parcel
