Several people have died after a serious rollover accident involving a tour bus Friday afternoon that closed down the Thruway in both directions near the Pembroke exit in Genesee County, according to State Police.

Troop A Public Information Officer James O'Callaghan told reporters at the scene that the tour bus, which was carrying 52 people, lost control in the eastbound lanes around 12:20 p.m. State police said several witnesses saw the bus lose control, enter the median, cross the southern shoulder and overturn.

"The bus did roll," O'Callaghan said. "There were multiple ejections. There were multiple people trapped and there's multiple fatalities, and this includes children as well."
