LOS ANGELES – A Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team was deployed in a Jefferson Park neighborhood for nearly eight hours Saturday after a suspect allegedly shot a man to death and exchanged gunfire with officers from inside a house.

Officers responded at 1:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of shots fired at a residence in the 2300 block of West 23rd Street, between Cimarron Street and Gramercy Place, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The caller told police a man was shot by the suspect and down in front of the house.

Neighbors told KTLA’s Lindsey Pena that the victim was reportedly trying to speak to a renter at a home that he owned when he was shot. Authorities have not confirmed that detail or provided a motive behind the deadly shooting.
