ATLANTA — It was a solemn farewell, honoring a life of valor and service by a DeKalb County Police officer who sacrificed his life during an attack on the Centers for Disease Control. Family, friends, and fellow officers remembered him during a Friday memorial service.
Loved ones gathered at First Baptist Church in Atlanta, paying tribute to Officer David Rose.
The 33-year-old officer died in the line of duty on Aug. 8, when a gunman opened fire outside the CDC's campus off Clifton Road. The violent attack led to a lockdown near Emory University, and six CDC buildings were hit by gunfire. Officer Rose was the first to respond and was fatally shot.
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was among the leaders who attended the memorial service.
