EUGENE, Ore. — The Trump administration's crackdown on illegal immigrants is causing widespread fear among Oregon's immigrant community , according to a researcher at the University of Oregon.
Assistant Professor of Sociology Isabel Garcia Valdivia explained fear is leading to tangible economic and social consequences, including people not going to work out of fear, avoiding shopping or skipping the doctor.
But Valdivia found immigrants over 50 seem to be handling the stress a little better.
"It's always present," she said about the fear of deportation, "but they also have other fears and day-to-day responsibilities."
