Two Rio Grande Valley teens have been arrested in the Sunday assault of a McAllen police officer who was attempting to stop a fist fight.

Mission resident Sergio Contreras Sandoval, 18, and Alton resident Alexander Andree Flores, 17, were both arrested and charged with resisting arrest.

Sandoval was charged with additional one count of public intoxication and another count of interference with public duties.

Flores was also charged with assault on a peace officer and evading arrest.

At around 2:06 a.m. on Sunday, McAllen police responded to a “crowd of people screaming at or near the intersection of South 17th Street and Beaumont Avenue in downtown McAllen, according to a press release.

Officers found “multiple males fist fighting” in public, so they began to separate the parties.
