HARLINGEN — Food used to line the shelves waiting to feed the next hungry child or mother or father.
Those shelves in the food banks throughout the Valley have as of late been empty after cuts in funding.
However, those bare shelves may soon begin serving the communities again, with food drives and donations now taking place to address the problem.
The Rotary Club of Harlingen has partnered with Loaves and Fishes of the Rio Grande Valley to conduct a food drive to feed those in the community who need help.
Victor Rivera is president of the Rotary Club of Harlingen and director of Loaves and Fishes.
“One of our Rotary Club members gave an impromptu speech at last week’s meeting and said, ‘OK, you club members need to start pitching in,’ and that’s how the drive started, with the club.”
