As Missouri schools kick off a new academic year, students and staff are navigating a major change: a statewide cell phone ban enacted by state lawmakers.

Missourinet visited the Mexico School District in central Missouri to see how the new law is playing out on campus .

Superintendent Troy Lentz told Missourinet that it is a change, but it is a change that’s going to be beneficial to kids.

“I spoke to a teacher yesterday about it and she was very happy with how things were going,” said Lentz. “She said that she wasn’t, you know, having arguments with kids. Hope the kids are making good choices and hope they understand that this really isn’t something that they can argue with their teacher about. It’s above their teacher.
