City completes first mechanical weed harvest on Crescent Lake in over a decade

For the first time in more than 10 years, the waters of Crescent Lake are clearer thanks to a mechanical weed harvesting operation aimed at improving the popular waterway for residents. Article content

The City of Portage la Prairie recently completed a four-day intensive cleanup, shifting away from the herbicide treatments used in previous years. An Alberta-based company, Seahorse Aquatic, used three machines to clear weeds, focusing on the areas around the public kayak and canoe docks on both the east and west sides of the lake.

The project, which began July 18, served as a trial run for the city to evaluate the effectiveness of mechanical harvesting.
