The City of Portage la Prairie recently completed a four-day intensive cleanup, shifting away from the herbicide treatments used in previous years. An Alberta-based company, Seahorse Aquatic, used three machines to clear weeds, focusing on the areas around the public kayak and canoe docks on both the east and west sides of the lake.

The project, which began July 18, served as a trial run for the city to evaluate the effectiveness of mechanical harvesting.
