Besteiro Middle School and the Brownsville Independent School District on Friday celebrated the school’s attainment of an A rating from the Texas Education Agency for the 2024-2025 school year.

TEA announced accountability ratings for schools across the state on Aug. 15, assigning school districts and campuses a letter grade on an A-F scale.

Besteiro was among 19 BISD campuses to receive an A rating, while 25 received a B. As a district, BISD maintained it’s 87 grade-point average from the 2022-2023 school year. The 2023-2024 TEA ratings were delayed due to a legal battle.

The family of the late Raul Besteiro, a former BISD principal and superintendent for whom the school is named, attended the recognition ceremony to share in the achievement and congratulate the teachers and students.
