No place loves pizza like New Jersey.

So, why should the Garden State — home of the best tomatoes and garlic — let Oklahomans keep the record for the world’s biggest pizza party?

Well, maybe it won’t.

Teens from the Boys & Girls Club of Newark and partners in 26 Papa Johns franchises are teaming up to break the record set in Tulsa two years ago, when 3,357 pizza partiers each downed two slices in a charity event with extra cheese.

Newark’s extra large party is scheduled for Sept. 22 at Prudential Center arena, when organizers hope to break the record with as many as 5,000 guests and 10,000 Papa Johns slices — or 1,250 pies — supplied by franchise owner Disrupt Foods .
