TEXARKANA, Ark. (KTAL/KMSS) – The Texarkana, Arkansas, police are issuing a warning regarding a new scam that involves unexpected packages and QR codes in this week's "Scam of the Week".
You may receive an unexpected package in the mail without a return address or any sender information, the only accessible information that could give you a clue about the source is a QR code.
Police say, whatever you do, do not scan.
The scam typically involves sending an item of little to no value inside the package, encouraging the recipient to scan the QR code to discover who the package may have come from.
Once scanned, however, the code directs a recipient to a website designed to steal personal information.
Not only this, but the website may also install harmful malware onto the user's device.
