(KRON) -- The California Highway Patrol said a red Toyota pickup truck driver left their fatally-injured passenger behind in Monterey County. The passenger, a 19-year-old Watsonville man, was ejected from the truck and died at the scene, according to the CHP.
The crash happened just before 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, south of Watsonville on Hudson Landing Road. The driver fled from the scene before emergency crews arrived and remains unidentified, the CHP said Monday.
Leading up to the deadly wreck, the pickup truck was traveling southbound on Hudson Landing Road near Wells Road. "For reasons still under investigation, it veered off the road, struck a power pole, and overturned," the CHP wrote.
