El CENTRO — The $49.6 million future El Centro police station, which is expected to be in operation by sometime in October, is costing more than what was originally budgeted.
Public Works Director Abraham Campos told the El Centro City Council Tuesday that there were 15 change orders costing $2.57 million the council had previously approved.
He explained that another $2.5 minion is needed for items like shaded parking, audio and video equipment and signage.
He also requested $550,000 to $600,000 for things that might come up, though what those things might be no one knows.
Campos also said if this amount was approved they would not have to go to the council for approval. If the funds are not needed they could be returned to the Measure P account.
