Almost everyone knows that when labels boast words like “natural,” “clean,” or “made with real ingredients,” a little skepticism is healthy. Now, new buzzwords are making the rounds in the foodie world — “farm to table,” “local flavors,” “fresh is better.” But do they hold up under scrutiny? One Warren local is proving that they do with his specialty sauces, bringing a clean, farm-fresh flavor straight to the kitchen table — year-round.

“I just add salt and pepper to it, and then basil. That’s it. Clean, clean, clean, clean, clean. That’s the way I work,” said Chef William Ferlauto of August Peak — his Rhode Island-based company that makes sauce from locally grown tomatoes sourced within a 400-mile radius of his home in Warren.
