BLOOMINGTON ( 25News Now ) - Most Bloomington City Council members signed an anti-hate pledge Monday night in response to controversial leaflets that many in the community found to be offensive.

Images of the flyer circulated on social media last week calling for people to meet at Miller Park early Saturday morning and march downtown to where the weekly Farmers’ Market takes place.

The so-called “March on Bloomington” is being promoted as a way to claim the state for “REAL CITIZENS.” The flyer also included an American flag with a swastika-like symbol in the corner.

In response, the Bloomington-Normal anti-hate group “ Not In Our Town ” pleaded with the council to sign pledge cards committing themselves to “stop hate, address bullying, and build a safe, inclusive community.”
