Residents in Quarter have taken on an environmental challenge to improve a neglected area of open ground at the heart of their community.
Members of new group Keep Quarter Beautiful – set up by the village’s community hub organisation which is working to transform its church building – has spent months tackling the overgrown land connecting Baltersan Gardens, Larch Way and Furnace Road.
Volunteers have cleared storm-damaged trees, overgrown vegetation and litter, and are now working on longer-term maintenance plans as well as liaising with South Lanarkshire Council over fencing off nearby electricity infrastructure to improve safety for local school pupils and dog walkers who regularly use the area.
