RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A new study found veterinarians in North Carolina are in high demand.

The study from Pet Insurance Deals was based on Google search data for 153 veterinarian-related terms in each state, including "mobile vet near me", "24 hour emergency vet", and "signs your dog needs a vet".

According to the study, North Carolina has 1,588 veterinarian-related searches per 100,000 residents.

Based on the searches in the Tar Heel State, the study advises North Carolina pet owners are advised to avoid veterinarian visits by being careful when living or exploring near water sources.

"Not only are pets at risk from water sources contaminated by hog waste, but also blue-green algae blooms, which can be toxic to pets," the study states.
