LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Several counties in the Charlotte region simulated Tuesday for the unlikely event of a disaster at the McGuire Nuclear Station in Huntersville.
Mark Howell oversaw the exercise for Lincoln County. He's the emergency management coordinator there.
Leaders from many areas of public life, including law enforcement, EMS, public health and Lincoln County Schools, were on hand at the county's emergency operations center in Lincolnton, which acts as a command center during a real disaster.
They drilled for a hypothetical radioactive leak at the McGuire nuclear plant.
"The nuclear [response] process actually makes us stronger to respond to any kind of disaster," Howell said.
