Philly AIDS Thrift is celebrating a major milestone with its fall block party, which will mark the organization’s 20th anniversary. Kicking off at noon on Sept. 13 outside the flagship store, the festival will raise funds for The Attic Youth Center, Mazzoni Center, MANNA, Bebashi, Philly Black Pride, William Way LGBT Community Center, Planned Parenthood, and many more LGBTQ+ centered and HIV/AIDS focused organizations.
“Back in 2005, a couple of friends and I — who were longtime AIDS activists and lovers of junk — created Philly AIDS Thrift,” said Christina Kallas-Saritsoglou, the organization’s executive director and co-founder. “Our first spot was tiny, had no heat, and we literally begged friends to donate their stuff from their apartments.”
